"Brooklyn-based painter Kimia Ferdowsi Kline is quickly gaining recognition in the art world for her vibrant paintings that draw inspiration from her Persian heritage, travels around the world, and stories of Iran told by her parents, who were exiled in the 1980s. Her current solo show, “As Above, So Below,” interweaves folk tales from the ancient Persian book Kalila and Dimna in her signature style that pays homage to Matisse and the Bay Area painters, such as Richard Diebenkorn and Wayne Thiebaud. It’s on view through June 24 at the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery at Wayne State University in Detroit, where she recently completed a five-week residency. As a painter and art curator at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Kline has a keen eye for design and loves to travel and explore new locales. In time for her solo show, she shares her favorite places to see art, eat, and shop in the Motor City."
